Planning Division - Sign Information

Sign Information

All new or modified signs, including painted signs, require a sign development order from the Planning & Land Use Services Division located on the 2nd floor of the City Hall, 9 Harrison Avenue, and may require review by the Bay County Building Department for a permit.

Temporary signs such as banners are permitted one per location, once a year, for no more than 30 days. The banner cannot be more than 32 square feet and no more than 10 feet in length or width. There is a $10 charge for the permit and the banner must be brought to the Planning & Land Use Services Division. Signs shall not be placed on any public or private sidewalk.

No sign shall physically or visually obstruct or impede pedestrian or vehicular movement. Signs shall not be placed on any fence, telephone pole, or traffic control device. No sign shall be placed in the right-of-ways.

To obtain a sign development order, please come to the Planning & Land Use Services Division, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., or call 872-3025. To register a sign complaint, please call Code Enforcement at 872-7209.
